In the old days so the story goes th Kondana forts was a strategic outpost overlooking pune and its capture was vital for Emperor Shivaji's plan to gain control over pune.

The fort rechristened Sinhagad meaning the fort of the lion to honour the courage of his Genral Tanaji, Who laid his life while capturing it.
